We have now opened the subversion repository for Frontend, so you can update to the latest bleeding-edge version at any time without registering.

Use of Frontend from the repository is allowed under the same license as the packed release (Creative Commons by-nc-sa license).

We have now released the first publicly available version of Frontend 2.0 under the under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike License!

You can also download the source for the demo Quantum which compiles with this release of Frontend.

2.0 is finally reached!

After two long years in the making, we are now proud to announce that Frontend 2.0 is done!

We are feature complete - further development on Frontend 2.0 will only be minor bugfixing. In a short while, we will release a source package for non-registered users to download. Those of you who are already registered can simply update your SVN folders to get up to date at any time.

To celebrate the release of the first stable version of Frontend 2.0, we released the demo Quantum at The Gathering this easter. It is written entirely against Frontend 2.0 and works in both Windows (on Direct3D 9) and Linux (on OpenGL 2.0).

Introducing fScript

fScript is a runtime environment which enables you to develop portable 3D graphics applications such as games and demos from JavaScript. fScript is implemented on top of Frontend, and gives you high performance rendering of 2D and 3D graphics, in addition to simple-to-use sound, network and input functionality.

fScript is ideal for rapid development of small games, demos, applications and prototypes. It can also provide a fun and encouraging way to learn programming for beginners.

Showcase: Evil Junior

Frontend 2.0 is being used in a brand new game called Evil Junior. This is a classical humorous adventure game in a mixture of 2D and 3D graphics developed by Illuminatics. A demo version is hopefully ready for display in the Norwegain Game Awards 2009 competition in May.

New Tutorials!

On Thursday January 15th, the Frontend team will hold a workshop in Trondheim, Norway where we will run a live tutorial on how to get started making games with Frontend 2.0. The workshop is hosted by Norwegian Game Awards and its goal is to help more student groups to start working on their own games for this year’s competition. The invitation demo for The Gathering 2009 has now been released. The demo is called “Radiers of the Lost Art” and is basically a Frontend Working Group combined effort on the code side. To no surprise, the demo is therefore written entirely against Frontend 2.0 Beta 3 :)
